Eddison Park Master Plan Confirmed

The Woden Valley Community Council welcomes the Chief Minister’s announcement on January 21 that an $800,000 project is underway to restore the Eddison Park pond and re-establish the site as a popular community space.

A new picnic and playground area and path will be constructed near the pond. A fitness trail that used to run through the park will also be reinstated, including two fitness stations catering for a range of fitness levels and abilities.

Draft Environmental Impact Statement: Woden Tradesmen’s Union Club

The Woden Valley Community Council (WVCC) wishes to make comment on the above Draft Environmental Impact Statement. WVCC objects to the assessment of the impact of the proposed deconcessionalisation and the assessment of our comments in relation to the proposal to deconcessionalise the lease for the Woden Tradesmen’s Union Club, on the corner of Launceston and Furzer Streets, Woden.

Woden Green Development Application

The Development Application (DA) for the first residential stage of Woden Green in Phillip, proposed by Hindmarsh, has been lodged. Details are available on the ACTPLA Public Notifications website.

Period for comment on the DA closes on 17 July 2009.

Eddison Park Youth Recreation Facility

The ACT Government has announced that it will use the $2 million grant from the Commonwealth Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program allocated to the ACT, for a dedicated youth recreational facility for Eddison Park and upgrades to Glebe Park.

Concept designs for a youth recreation facility in Eddison Park have been prepared by Convic Design. Convic Design will be at Eddison Park this Saturday with the draft plan for discussion, questions and comment.

The Eddison Park Youth Recreation Facility "could include a performance stage for events such as Youth Week, art display areas, skate facilities and play equipment such as a climbing net. Interactive areas such as volleyball and basketball courts and a flying fox could also be part of the new recreational facility.

"The ACT Government will consult the community about how they would like to use the youth facility before any decisions on infrastructure and upgrades are made."

Eddison Park Master Plan

Over the past year, ACT Parks Conservation and Lands has developed a Master Plan for the redevelopment of Eddision Park.

The Eddison Park master plan has been completed and will be sent to the minister for approval before launching later in January or early February 2009.

Some works are in the detail design phase and will be submitted for Development Approval with the Planning Authority in early February 2009. These include the pond reinstatement, playground for younger children, fitness trail and picnic facilities.

Woden’s recreational facilities under threat

Changes to planning laws due to be debated in the Legislative Assembly in August could see the loss of major recreational facilities and amenities in the Woden Town Centre including aspects of the Phillip pool complex, the basketball stadium and the bowls club.
