The ACT Budget has confirmed that new traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Eggleston Crescent /Hindmarsh Drive, Launceston Street/ Hindmarsh Drive and the Tuggeranong parkway off ramp slip lane /Hindmarsh Drive.

hinbdmarsh_lights$1.52 Million was allocated in the 2016/17 ACT budget for final design and construction

These intersections have had a high vehicle crash history particularly at morning and afternoon peak times. Traffic congestion has also lead to the ACTION bus route 21/22 being reconfigured to avoid lengthy delays crossing Hindmarsh Drive.

These intersections had also been evaluated for Federal Blackspot funding as far back as 2011 with the reports recommending a number of different treatments and options. The AECOM final reports recommendation was traffic signals as the best option.  Click each image to access the report…

  1. I agree. Travelling from Weston Creek all the way along Hindmarsh through Woden til at least Swinger Hill, is a slow journey.

  2. Could you please push to government to properly time the traffic light signals for a ‘green wave’ as traffic congestion and slow travel times on Hindmarsh drive from Weston Creek to Fyshwick/Queanbeyan are extremely frustrating for those travelling this route daily. The lights throughout the journey are based on a ‘red wave’ and you have to stop literally at every traffic light. These roadworks appease 2 suburbs’ residents but causes great disadvantage to 10+ suburbs’ residents as a result.
