Woden Valley Community Council Small Grants and Public Liability Insurance programs

$500 Grants to Community Organisations - 2025

The Woden Valley Community Council (WVCC) is offering small grants of up to $500 to local community organisations for events and activities that will promote a sense of community amongst residents of the Woden Valley, or improve our local environment. The grants are available for:

· running public events, such as community barbecues, musical events, festivals and fairs

· environmental improvements, such as planting native plants. All activities must have the approval of the land manager.

To be eligible, the event or activity proposed must be compatible with the terms of the WVCC Deed of Grant that we have signed with the ACT Government (described below).

We will try to ensure that the small grants go to various parts of Woden, in other words no one suburb gets more than its ‘fair share’. The maximum available for all grants in total is $5000.

Public Liability Insurance

In addition to the small grants, local organisations running events may also apply to the WVCC for public and volunteer liability insurance to cover for activities. The application will be determined by the WVCC Committee on a case by case basis.

The liability insurance is intended to cover ad hoc events, and so organisations within existing wider networks such as sporting, religious, and schools will generally not be eligible.

How to apply

If your group is interested in applying, please email wodenvalleycommunitycouncil@gmail.com.

Your email should include

- Information about the group

If your application is successful then you will need to provide receipts for your expenditure and we will reimburse you. We will not advance money before expenditure. You will also need to provide a brief report on your activity. This report could largely be photographs of the activity we funded happening.

You should allow at least a month, preferably 6 weeks, for a decision from Woden Valley Community Council.

Requirements to meet the Deed of Grant

Your activity must acknowledge the support of the Woden Valley Community Council and the ACT Government. It must be publicised broadly to engage the community. The activity must not promote or endorse a political party or a political candidate.
